The Deeper Work of Creative Process

In therapeutic practice, we don't ask children to explain their art - we notice the process. How they move, repeat, press into materials and return to an experience can tell us what words cannot.

These moments offer insight into a child's inner world. Through art, the nervous system expresses, explores and processes experience. When art becomes outcome-focused, creativity can narrow. When it is process-driven, children have greater opportunities for regulation, curiosity and healthy development.

This workshop invites you to see art differently and explore how your environment, materials and responses shape children's experiences. With this understanding, art becomes more than a creative activity - it becomes a powerful way to support connection, emotional wellbeing and development.

Behaviour is visible. Thinking isn't.

Children reveal who they are every day - but are we noticing?

In this inspiring keynote, Jennifer Harbottle explores the difference between observing children and truly noticing them. Through unforgettable classroom stories and practical reflections, she demonstrates how looking beyond behaviour allows educators to uncover children's remarkable thinking, creativity and capability.

Rather than adding another task to an already busy profession, Jen shows how noticing actually simplifies teaching. When we understand children more deeply, behaviour makes sense, curriculum becomes authentic and relationships flourish.

This keynote is a celebration of children's extraordinary minds - and a reminder of the profound influence educators have in helping children see their own potential.

Created by Early Childhood Teacher Jen Harbottle

Jen is an early childhood teacher, keynote speaker and co-founder of Creative Ways Collective, where she inspires educators to see children - and themselves - through a new lens.

With a background in journalism before moving into early childhood education, Jen combines powerful storytelling with years of classroom experience to challenge conventional thinking about children's behaviour, capability and learning.

Known for her inquiry-based approach and unforgettable classroom stories, Jen believes the greatest gift an educator can offer a child is to be deeply seen. Her work has inspired educators to rethink observation, curriculum and the role of the teacher through one simple but profound idea:

Behaviour is visible. Thinking isn't.

Jen lives and teaches in Queensland, where she continues to learn alongside young children every day.
